The Nicest Antique Oak and Iron Hospital bedside table I’ve ever seen! This antique adjustable table was recently acquired form an estate in Upstate NY. This 1903 table features an iron base and column with an oak table surface. The plate which adjusts the tilting of the table is marked in raised lettering “Pat Nov 24 1903″. The base has 4 Ball and claw feet on the end of 4 arms on the base, The two front arms scroll outward from the center bar and curve up slightly to end at the ball and claw device which holds the castor. The rear arms don’t scroll as much but do have a similar curve near the end. The rear Ball and claw feet are slightly larger than the front ball and claw feet. The rear feet never held castors, they end in an iron pad. The entire base is cast iron. A cylindrical iron column rises between the 2 rear arms/feet and supports the inner tube adjustment for raising/lowering the table surface and the adjustment for tilting the table surface. The inner tube is decorated with it’s original oxidized copper plate decoration. An Iron bracket extends from the top of this column and supports the oak table top. The top is rectangular with a shallow oak frame surrounding the oak surface. The table surface measures 25 1/2′ long by 16 1/2 wide. The frame sticks up a scant 1/4″ above the surface can move from a low of 25″ off the floor to a high point of 41 off the floor. The surface can be level/flat or tilted and locked 90 degrees in either direction. The base measures 15 3/8″ wide at the back feet and 19″ long from front feet to back. Really Exceptional condition: no chips, cracks or repairs to the Iron base, No damage to the iron column. The adjustments are complete and working well. There is some cosmetic chipping to the iron on the tilt adjustor (see photo#) but this does not effect its function in any way. The oak top has a beautiful color. There is some wear to the finish on the surface but nothing so drastic that it couldn’t be remedied with a little steel wool and wax. If you run your hand over the surface, you can feel some slightly raised wood at the joints between the strips of oak of which the top was crafted. It doesn’t show visually and is not offensive in any way, just mentioned for accuracy’s sake. I’ve seen a few of these table over the years and this is, by far, the best condition I’ve ever seen.
